Jupiter Anne Davis, raised in Cape Cod by her grandmother, is a strong and young 1940's woman with a younger sister whose health hangs by a thread. She marries at a young age and forces herself to be content with what she has. At her Mama's funeral, she happens to meet a man who calls himself Noah. She eventually leaves her husband for him and they live happily together, until Noah tells her that he needs to find himself elsewhere. But when he reappears four years later, she has to struggle with her hatred for him and her longing for his love. Through memories of each lover, the past is made from those stories, and the present mends itself. This story is an adventurous romance that shows us: sometimes to love the world, we must first leave it.
